Response 2

Comments on the Proposed Policy Options

Option 1 Do Nothing

This notes that there is no European plan to do what the CAA is now proposing!

Option 2 SSR Mode S on all Aeroplanes and Helicopters

This would apply to Aeroplanes and helicopters only. Gliders and balloons would be exempt.

Option 2(a) SSR Mode S and 1090ES (ADS-B 'Out') Capability on all Aeroplanes and Helicopters

There is no policy to fit ADS-B in aeroplanes but this option would require it anyway.

Option 3 SSR Mode S on all Aircraft

This is the full proposal with a suggested exemption for local flights.

3(a) SSR Mode S and 1090ES (ADS-B 'Out') Capability on all Aircraft

Although ADS-B would not be used in the UK, this would require it to be installed from 2008.
